He is jealous for me, His love’s like a hurricane, I am a tree, bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy.
On April 27th, 2011 a series of tornadoes came rolling through my hometown. That night was full of fear and anxiety as I was trying to find out if all of my friends were safe, and having to wait until the sun rose to see the damage that had our town had undergone felt like torture.
Occasionally, I am reminded of that chilling night as I drive through the country side and can still see the effects of that storm; acres of twisted and bent trees. Even foreigners and travelers who pass by notice that this small piece of Earth once encountered something big. There is evidence of it. Complete fields wiped out, trees uprooted and twisted like Twizzlers. You can’t hide the disastrous aftermath which means you can’t help but notice it either.
I think this is a reflection of our relationship with Christ. His love is so incredible, that once we encounter it, and receive it, there should be evidence of it woven throughout our life. Other people should see God’s love through our speech, our actions, and the way we treat other people.
John 13:35 says this “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another. "
As Christians and as disciples of Jesus we should have evidence that something big has happened to us and is happening through us. Because something big did happen. Jesus. Jesus saw us in our mess and decided to pick us up and brush us off. Does Jesus’ love for you have you “bent"? Is there evidence in your life that something big took place? I challenge you this week to reflect the love He has poured out to you toward those around you.
Be the aftermath of Jesus’ love. The world needs it.
