Since 1997, in a quiet corner of the internet, there has been a Christian web comic so funny that it has almost certainly graced every church's Sunday bulletin on a low-announcement week at least once.
Reverend Fun, a comic by Dennis Hengeveld, and part of the Bible Gateway family, has been going strong for the better part of 2 decades, poking fun at Christians who take themselves too seriously and taking snapshots of hilarious "What If's" in stories from the Bible.
I discovered the comic strip in the early 2000's, when he would be posting a new comic almost every single day!
In the later years, he reduced it to about two a week, but they have always been a source of chuckle-inducing hilarity.
Sadly, this always clever, sometimes goofy, and often convicting web comic has finally come to an end, after nearly 18 years and over 3000 comics!
While this, of course, makes me sad, what a run! Web comics were still a new thing back in 1997, and very few have survived this long (at least, not without several long hiatuses, which, judging by the archives, Reverend Fun has never taken).
If, by chance, you've not come across the genius of "Reverend Fun", you can learn more about it and it's creator in this wonderful Bible Gateway article by Katie Hall and, of course, you can visit ReverendFun.com! Every single comic he's ever produced is still available in the "Artchives." You've got almost 20 years of laughs to catch-up with, so settle in!
Here's a taste:
Thank you, Reverend Fun, Dennis Hengeveld, and Bible Gateway! You have been an inspiration to this ministry in many ways, as you taught me how to not take life so seriously and to remember that laughter is certainly a gift from God.
