Pre-gastric-bypass Bart Millard (Matt Coker) and Garth Brooks-if-he-was-a-nightclub-owner (Joey Porter) up there are a couple of dorks that spent a year trying to come up with the goofiest (and cheapest) ways to make church announcements more entertaining.
Seeing as Matt had a pretty good voice and Joey was actually the Worship Pastor of the church at the time, naturally one Sunday they decided to put together a musical.
"It was ridiculous," Coker said. "Normally for these videos, we met up on Saturday, acted out a couple goofy skits, and then I edited the video together. All told, it maybe took 3 hours. But for the musical, we had to set up a little studio and write and record all the songs, then record mini music videos while mouthing the songs as perfectly as we could manage, and then I had to sync everything perfectly. I think we started at about 5 pm and it was darn near 2 in the morning before I was done editing the video. But we got it done."
The results were a pretty impressive collection of short, amusing music videos about pretty mundane things like turning in permission slips for youth camp and checking the lost & found for missing Bibles. And when that Sunday rolled around, the video was a huge hit with the church.
Now, we invite you to give it a listen and maybe try the same idea in your own church!
A collection of faith-based funnies for those who need a chuckle or two.
